George Barker, together with his wife Joan, started Barkers Bakery on 1st January 1950. They soon had a fleet of vans operating from their bakehouse, delivering bread door-to-door in surrounding villages.
Present owner Richard Barker, the son of George and Joan, joined the business in the mid 1960s, at which time they opened the first of their shops.
From a small village bakery the business has now grown to employ 100 staff, with many shops and a state of the art bakery in Cottenham serving hundreds of wholesale customers throughout Cambridgeshire.
